Sixty years ago, Archie Comics rolled out a new female lead character with her own book…Josie! It was just a female version of Archie with a red-headed teenage girl instead of boy. Dan DeCarlo thankfully changed it up in 1969 by introducing Josie to Valerie and Melody and they became Josie and the Pussycats. Within a couple years, they were a hit Saturday-morning cartoon getting entangled into James Bond-like messes and then outer space. I only wish their satirical movie aimed really at Gen X did as well since the music was made for my generation, not the Mills it was semi-mocking.
